Summer Camp! |
We have three goals:
|
| Kamp Dovetail is located at Rocky Fork State Park, during the week after Father’s day. Rocky Fork Lake is approximately two miles outside of Hillsboro, Ohio.
Each year, over two hundred children with various handicaps, attend Kamp Dovetail. These handicaps include but are not limited to visual impairments, Spina Bifida, Cerebral Palsy, Down syndrome, behavior disorders, and some with multiple handicaps. |
|
Kamp Dovetail offers a volunteer to camper ratio of 1:1. Each volunteer is assigned one camper for whom they are responsible. This responsibility includes everything from helping with clothing, to aiding the camper with his/her meals. Many of the campers are self sufficient, but there are some that require more care. These campers that require more, will be given to volunteers that are experienced. Volunteers must always know where their camper is at all times. Each day of Kamp Dovetail is unique in activities set up by the group leaders and directors. These activities include horseback riding, boating on the lake, swimming at the beach, recreation, and entertainment. Each night, volunteers from the community, volunteer their time to provide our entertainment. On the Thursday night of Kamp, we have a dance with local DJ Brian Vance.

Kamp Dovetail is the only camp of its kind in this area. There are other camps that specialize in the needs of handi-capped children, but none of them combine all the various handicaps into one camp. We believe that this special combination allows all the children who attend the chance to bond with others who are also faced with challenges. |
S. A. T. H. a non-profit organization sponsors Kamp Dovetail. All of the staff members are volunteers from the community. This allows each camper to attend Kamp for only $15.00. Many of the other camps charge anywhere from $200 all the way up to $600 just for one week. This is one more reason why the volunteers that support Kamp Dovetail are so important. Many of the campers that attend Kamp Dovetail have medication that they are required to take sometimes up to three times a day. Kamp Dovetail provides EMTs that are in charge of this medication at all times. Each child has paper work, provided by the parents, that tells the EMTs exactly what and when the medication is due. It is only the responsibility of the volunteer to escort their camper to the location that the medication will be given. No volunteer is responsible for the administering of the medications. If you have any questions about how you can be a part of Kamp Dovetail, please write us at: linda.allen@kampdovetail.com or information@kampdovetail.com.
